Default Back in Driveway, pls help

O.K., I got her home, but had to call tow truck. I put it on jumper cables first, and let it charge, but not long enough. Usually when running, the voltometer reads between 12 and 18. With cables on it was at 12. Took em off and it stayed at 12 at idle. Started driving and it dropped to 6! Is this the alternator as I and most of you suspect? That shouldn't be too difficult to fix will it. It looks rather straight forward. I have 89 N/A. I just put new belts on and they're nice and snug. Could the alternator just crap out on me like this?

Scruff
P.S. I just went on cygnus and got instructions. I now have old alternator off. Before I put new one on, should I be looking for anything else?

100% absolutely possible. Along with brake calipers, starters, coil packs, cam sensors, thermostats, fuel pumps, water pumps, etc, etc.....

Default Re: Alternator

Thanks guys for your input. While I have the alternator out, is there anything else I should check for? Someone mentioned a regulator, but didn't they build that into it? If not, where is it, and what should I look for.

Thanks,

Scruff
