i'm new to this forum,an i was thinking about buying a 1984 supra in mint condiontion the only thing i don't like about the car is color(yellow)but it's got a new timeing chain new front main seal new valve seals new tires an brakes.but i really don't know anything about the car so if someone could give me the pros an cons about it i would appreciate it very much

Well it's rather hard to say any pros and cons w/o pictures and is it stock or not? If it's stock the cons are definatly gunna be if you want it to be fast your going to have to be willing to put a lot of time and money into it.

well it's bone stock but a cold air intake i was also wondering how reliable it is an what ever other specs u might know

Well supras themselves are very very reliable cars, there parts last forever it seems but they dont exactly get the best gas milage for a 6 cylinder car. And in 84 they were still using the 2.8L not as much power but still not bad (doesn't make a HUGE difference but a litte) The parts are pretty much silmilar to the late models so parts arn't a hard thing to find specaily if you have a local import dealer. If I remember right the 84 had 2 recalls on them. One on the Engine cooling and one on the Alternator/Generator/Regulator. But it only affected about... 75,000 if that makes you feel better LOL. If your very very serious about buying you could ask the person your buying it from for the VIN number and see if it was in any accidents or if any recalls or anything affected it.

And i noticed your from North Carolina, Supras arn't a very good winter car so you should keep that in mind to. They are rear wheele drive so not the best traction. But they are also heavy and fat so that does help a little bit. If he's asking a resonible price for it and it has lower miles i'd say go for it.

well here in north carolina we don't get that much snow,are performence parts cheap?there asking 2,000$ but my wife is koren an she can talk anyone down:)do u think that is a good price?

it also has 160,000 miles an how much an how hard would it be to do a manual conversion?

Manual conversions are pretty simple, basically you have to put in a clutch pedal, and the trans bolts right on (I THINK......I AM NOT SURE!).

Now 2,000 for something with 160,000 on it....GO FOR IT. If it is in good shape, then you really wouldn't have to talk that person down. THese cars keep their value it seems, so if you fix it up, and all that you could turn around and sell it for 4 times that. However I never paid over 1500 for any of my two supra's. I paid 500 for my 87 T, with 250,000kms, and 1500 for my 88 T with 160,000kms on it. Then engine on my 88 was put in 63,000kms ago, along with a new exhaust system, and turbo.
