How much hp can a w58 handle???
Hi, how much reliable hp can a toyota w58 box handle? I am currently installing a 1jz into a lotus 7 replica so weight will be under 700kgs max. Many thanks.

on the supra 7mge the w58 can handle 300-350 hp.

Your best bet is to put an R154 behind it. It'll handle all the abuse you can throw at it, and as the 1JZ was never originally mated to any W-series trans, you will have to make a custom bellhousing adapter to bolt it up.
1JZ R154 is the way to go. Just make sure you get a trans from a 1JZ car, otherwise you'll be buying a 1JZ bellhousing, and they go for about $350 last I checked. |

Thanks guys, have found a small engineering company who can make an adapter plate to fit the w58, have looked around but the r154 is practicaly non existent here in south africa.....
