Thumbs down Call me a N00B......

Hey guys. I have a question for someone out there. Just to give me piece of mind, what fluids are there to be changed on a 1988 Toyota Supra Turbo.

I know how to get at the oil, washer, coolant, and powersteering, and brake fluid.....I have an auto trans, so do I need to change that fluid as well?

Where is the dipstick, and filler for the trans, if there is one. That is something that I am worried about.

QUESTION: Ok, I was going to get some beer a week ago, I parked (Forgot to put it in park, and ended up rolling about 2 feet backwards, while in drive). My question is could I have snapped my speedo cable from doing that? I started the car back up, and my speed no longer registers, and the overdrive light keeps blinking on, and off at a steady 3 second rate. If I turn the overdrive off, then it still stays constantly on, like its supposed to.

HELP!!!! This is the second cable I could have potientially snapped. Now both of them are shot from my two cars.

I cant see any possible way for the speedo cable to break under the conditions you described. Its designed to turn forward and backward...otherwise we could never back up for fear of breaking our cables. I think its just a wied coincidence.

As for fluids, Yes, you should change your trans fluid and I recommend you change your rear diff fluid as well. I dont have an automatic supra so I cant tell ya where to look for the filler/dipstick...sorry

Drain using drain plug, fill through dipstick.

the trans dip stick is on the right of the engine use a light to find it. Its almost in plain sight. The drain plug for the trans fluid is on the right side of the exhaust pipe kind of in middle of the car. check ur manal i think it says it in there. use this too. http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/library/TSRM/

Cool Thanx guys

Thank you for your support on this subject. I am aware of the color of the fluid, and now the location, and how to fill the tranny. I checked the fluid level, and it is at a good level, a friend of mine said that its burning (The fluid has changed color, and it smells different)....he also stated that the trans will likely fail in the next year, just by SMELLING the fluid...is it even POSSIBLE AT ALL to derive that from smelling the fluid?
