Wheel bearings
Hey guys, I need some help, I just bought a 1988 toyota supra for $300 from my friend, it's a VERY good running car and just had the head gasket replaced, he said it needs wheel bearing's and he says it's the front ones, but I just want to make sure those are the ones that ussually go bad. I love the car and the car has some balls, I'm inpressed with the amount of torque offered by the Inline6 engine. I think I also may need a Valve cover gasket because there is oil leaking from there and it's dripping oil onto the exhaust which is causing some smoke, I dont mind throwing some cash into this car because it's got serious potential. Where is the best place I can purchase wheel bearings?

It's up to you to figure out which wheel bearings are bad. Listen while driving, jack up the front of the car, and while holding onto the spring with one hand, spin the wheel with the other. If you feel a grinding type of vibration transmitted through the spring, then the wheelbearing is likely bad. Grab the wheel with your hands at the 9o'clock and 3o'clock positions and wiggle it back and forth, any play? do the same at 12o'clock and 6o'clock positions and feel for any play.
If you're still unsure, have a mechanic buddy check it out. You can buy wheel bearings at any parts store... |
