Unhappy possibly pump time

Sounds like the pressure valve in the pump may be sticking when the clearances tighten up due to heat.

You might try some cleaner fluid (for P/S from parts store) in there for a week and see if it helps.

If not, then don't just leave it in there, because if left too long, it will destroy the rack seals.

You may need a reman p/s pump. Carquest is between $135 & $235 (my cost & full list price)
