![]() Not sure what this is at the bottom of the hole, checked the parts catalogue the nearest I can see it being is a union for cylinder head. What does it do? as you can see its almost looks like a ball bearing.
Location: inlet side of cylinder head at the very front. ![]() |

I believe it is a machining hole use during manufacture of the head. Thats why they plugged it off, as it is no longer needed.

Seams odd Mr Nickleye Toyota never blocked it off with a large grub screw like they did with the oil gallery at the front and rear of the block.

I suspect the hole that has a threaded plug in it had something threaded into it at the factory. Why else to spend $$$ threading it??
While the other hole was simply a drilled hole to access a galley, or tie in 2 passages. Machining blocks is a complicated affair. And then imagine an assembly line. So they have to do it as efficiently and quickly as possible.

they probably threaded the oil galleries to make for easier cleaning of the galleries when taken to a reconditioner
