The 7M-GTE has extra lubrication jets/nozzles for the cooling of the big-end bearings and oil feed and return connections to & from the turbo to the block. The pistons are different and the cranks also differ between model years. They both may have the same cast block initially but are fitted with different components. Late model cams have a chamfered oil journal inlet to aid the oil feed.
