Hey guys, i have a question. If anyone can recall the movie "Fast and the Furious", you will remember the toyota supra with the custom hood that was composed ot two squares and 2 kind of right triangle, if you need a refresher then just come here to check it out http://www.best1hobby.com/image/sas/sasup1.jpg . I just wanted to know if anyone has it because my predicament is, i am about to cut the template out on my hood, its a stock hood but im gonna cut out the template. My problem is, on these hoods, its open holes... i mean, wouldnt the rain fall onto the engine and rust everything till its ruined? or it there something people use to block the rain or something? thats my problem, plz healp me.

i'm actutally in the same boat as you for the mk3 hood, i want to place a vent where my turbo is.. for obvious reasons... but if rain gets in there whiles she's hot the manifold and turbo will crack :(

i haven't yet figured this out... i'll have a look around and see what others come up with :)

Yea well i came up with an idea and im goin to ask if it will work. i want to place meshing where the holes are, just because thats the look im going for, but i mean there is still an open hole in my hood, so i wonder it i should weld the meshing under my hood so it shows up in the holes, and then place plexi-glass inder the meshing, and then sealer around the rim of the meshing and plexi-glass, this way the water wouldnt fall into my engine, but, that means it would stay in my meshing until it evaporated, would this rust and eat away mu hood? or is there something i can like cover the metal with, like a coat of something that wont let water eat the metal???

that bonnet is a TRD 3000gt bonnet. the holes are there for venting, so putting something under the meshing is not going to allow air through, which will kinda defeat the purpose wouldn't it? unless the car is parked out side, it will be moving most of the time, so shouldn't be a problem.

Yes, well my car is parked outside, and the reason for that hood is looks. But there lies my problem, my car is subjected to rain since it is outside most of the time, im sure that the rain would eat my hood away, and if it wasnt covered on the bottom, rain would drip onto my engine... would it matter if rain drips onto my engine in the place where those holes are?

You do realize that if you cut your hood, you will not only cut though the top metal but through the lower brackets; meaning the skin and the skeleton of the hood. This will make your hood less structurally sound. To answer your questions, if you cut the holes then put plexi-glass below it the plexi-glass would quickly melt. Maybe not totally but it would change its shape and color. But if you just put in mesh no it would not rust out. The bottom of the car is open and many things get wet when you drive in the rain, but it would lessen the life of your belts and hoses because of the uv rays that you would be subjecting them too. Plus your engine would get nasty fast from things falling in it along with the water. If I where you I would just leave it alone because it would take alot of time and money to get it to look right. If you weld you will have to repaint, bondo, and have to replace rubber faster then expected.
To supra_girl why not put an intake some where else, not right on top of the turbo but away form it and pipe the cold air over it. This would allow you to create a water free environment for the turbo and cool it down using a ram air system.

i like body kits and exterior stuff from vielside or bomex

these hood have inserts that are threaded and flat black plasic that inserts from underneath then you but bolts on the threads and your done ...i have seen some people leave the lower insert out on one side in hopes of pulling more air into the filter, but it doesn't really seem to make a difference. the inserts i am talking about work the same as the ones on the early 00 wrx and rs imprezza's.

look on ebay there are always mk3's and 4's for sale some stock and some moded u just have to take the time to look

the hood is from teh trd3000gt body kit...its made of fiberglass and those holes are vents...its a damn nice hood...a lot of bootlegs but none like the original
