MK3 turbo! BUY OR NOT?
Hello everyone, one of my friend is trying to sell me a supra... It's 1988 turbo with 7M-GTE, manual, Targa, which is not leaking..
Best thing of all, it only has 100k mi, with new paint! :-) It's comming with new TEMS shocks + tanabe springs in BOX... 4k mi on new rotors & pads. However, it's been sitting for a year or two, and interior is shit due to sun exposure. It also needs alternator and entire wiring harness for the engine, as it was frayed out. Has aftermarket 17" rims w/ good rubbers.. I am also not too sure about the head gasket. I am assuming that it would be oaky once I torque it right. GUESS HOW MUCH THE PRICE IS!!!!!!!!!!!!! $1000. What should I DO?? BUY?? OR NOT?? :-) |

Hello, the good news is here- the owner is sure of the head gasket's okay, since he had it torqued down 2 yrs ago at the toyota dealership at 70lb/ft. Engine itself is okay.
The new components put in to make the car run are: alternator ECU camshaft position sensor crakshaft position sensor new fuel pump relay new fuel pump new injectors (all 4) NOW.. the car turns out to be the wiring harness, which was a mystery solved by the toyota dealership after expensive diagnosis labor of 10+ hrs. I never heared a wiring harnes fraying out (or the insulation fraying out and shorting out together) on any supra forums yet. The wiring harness issue never comes up unless people are doing a 89+ ecu swap, auto to manual swap, or na+Turbo mod. I can get the wiring harness- but I am concened if there is any "hidden" problems that caused the wiring harness to fry out itself. I don't wanna pass up this oppertunity, but I am concerned if this is a BIG issue since I am not ready yet to do a stand-alone ECU (haltech, megasquirt..etc..) yet. what to do...what..too..doo... please help me out!! |

HAHAHA thats some funny shit.
7M's don't have a crankshaft position sensor. Whoever told you that is either A. lieing, or B. never worked on a MK3 supra before and is just repeating what a hack mechanic told them he replaced. Either way, there is no Crankshaft position sensor, ask me how I know. All 4 huh? Too bad a 7M is a 6 cylinder. Too bad retorquing 20 year old factory head bolts don't do a good god damn. The damage is already done with the head bolt threads being caked with carbon and they are already streched. Theres a reason the car is selling for $1000. Sounds like a complete toilet to me. |

Oh Well...
oh well............
I checked out the car. pretty much everything he said was correct, but the wiring harness is.. seriously, genuinly fu**ed up. Sorry for saying 4 injectors, as I have typed it wrong. I did not know that it did not have the crankshaft position sensor.. I guess he is referring the CPS to camshaft positon sensor, which is driven by the gear, attached to the cam. This CPS wasn't even connected to the wiring harness- there wasn't a socket on the wiring harness!!!! there was some wires hanging out around the coolant temperature sensor connection, but I wasnt able to figure out how to connect it back up. I have no idea how to work on this car. I never thought it to be this nasty. The guy was totally honest to me though. Anyhow- It was odd- the engine & turbine(shaft play) indeed looked like it had 100k on it- but it just felt like it was really 30 year old, 300k mi car. Oh well, sorry for a newbie- non-sense thread... Thank you so much for putting your time to read my crappy writing, and giving me such inputs. Thanks.. off to a supra search again... :-) |
