This problem started several months ago. The RPM gauze would suddenly race up to 3000rpm at 40 mph and the car would coast down the street. I would let off the gas, it would start to slow down, the gear shift and it would be back to normal driving. As I pick up speed again, a block or so, the problem would start all over again. I had the transmission overalled and sense then, it has been back in the shop twice for the same problem.
Now the problem is back. Can anyone help me with my 88 Supra problem.
ps- My on-board computer is flashing code 51. <_<

it sounds like an electrical problem but, the "51" code doesnt show up on the diagonostics sheet. now, when this happens, does the engine actually go to 3k rpm? or is it just the tachometer?

The engine is roaming up, but the car is not moving.
