Power Steering Leak
My 87 Supra Non-turbo, has started to leak, actually squirting fluid from the passenger side rack & pinion boot, I have had one shop tell me that you cannot replace the boot and must replace the entire rack, I have replaced the boots on other cars and it fixed the leak just fine , but after checking another place they said something similar but wasn't sure if you had to replace the rack or not.
Anybody know for sure? |

Do it yourself
Yes, I DO know. The 'boot' is ONLY a dust and dirt shield. The seal that is leaking is in the rack. You must replace the rack with a remanufactured one,(unless you are very rich and want a NEW one).
Carquest price (reman) is $146 net, to $246 list. Its not hard to do. I did mine in 2hrs tops, in the driveway on ramps. PS: If someone would make a nice (seperate) thread on how to do it yourself, I will sticky it in the FAQs section.
