Plugs and Wires
I need to do a tune-up soon and I was thinking of going with the MSD wireset. Is it worth the bucks? Also, nobody has them in stock and I will have to wait over a week. I can get a set of Bosch in 2 days for about half the price. What do you guys think? How about plugs? Denso and Bosch both make an iridium. The Denso's cost about 3 dollars more apiece. Any difference?

hey man i just recently put NGK Iridium plugs, and NGK wires in my car. It does feel like a cleaner burn through out. I dont neccesarily feel any extra power or anything, but there def isnt a stutter durring take off, so ignite efficiently. i personally dont know if it was worth the expenses. i think if your into pimping out your ride lol then yeah go for it, get the best, but if your just wanting to keep your car running then i'd save your money. just my thoughts..

Thanks Danny
I think I'll go with the Bosch and save about 60 bills on the wireset and 20 on the plugs. I mean, Bosch does make some pretty good products from what I have experienced.

Good Deal?
I think I got a good deal on the wires. They are Beck/Arnley Blue Thunder and I got 'em for 65 dollars. How's that sound? Any good.

Damn I wish I saw this thread sooner.
NGK are the best plugs you can buy. MSD are the best wires you can buy, they are better than NGK wires. MSD wires have less than 50 ohms of resistance per foot, try to find a wire that has less resistance than that. A stock wire has 1000's of ohms of resistance. Beck and Arnley? Those are generic cheap parts store crap. You got hosed for $60. JSCspeed.com has MSD wires in stock and are $90. Stay far away from bosch spark plugs. Go with NGK only. |
Hi IHH
Thanks for the input. I got the NGK plugs, but you think I got hosed on the wires, huh? Are they absolutely horrible, or can I run em for a little while? I was in a rush as to getting parts as I want this done by Memorial Day weekend. I'll see how this works, hope it doesn't give me any problems. Also, I called the Toyota Parts shop because I need that 90o bent hose that hooks right over the intake. Mine is rather worn (torn and cracked, and unless I snug it up real tight it lets in air). They want $80. Can I replace this with a simple pre-bent piece of hosing? It looks about 3 to 3 1/2 inches diameter. Whatcha think? Thanks for the help guys!

Those beck/arnely wires will work ok, as you are N/A. I've been using Carquest wires for 3 years without a single problem.
I did go down to the speed shop and got some bulk MSD wire and ends for the coil to dist. I did this because the coil wire carries 6X the flow volume of current than each individual wire. |
