taking my supra to LA, from Sacramento...
hello all i wanted to make sure my car is going to make it all the way, with no problem. i think it will but want to ready the car just in case. i really wanted to get it running as cold as possible... so should i drain the coolant and put straight water just for my trip up there and put some water wetter in it. anything else i can do? also with oil on such a long trip should i go thicker or thinner, what would you guys recommend? thanks in advance.

Never run straight water. Rust comes quickly.
Anti freeze also raises the boiling point of the water. 50/50 mix for best results. Water wetter will help a little bit. Make sure your rad. cap is good/new. Carry a gallon of 50/50 anti freeze to make you feel better. That drive is just a short little jount. I run to Santa Rosa (408 miles) in 5-6hrs (75-90mph), once or twice a year. No big deal. Drive at night for cooler air, and less A/C use. Bring some CRANKING rock-n-roll to pass the time. |
thanks for the reply. I remember watching the video on the water wetter or w/e and i thought the tests showed straight water ran cooler... i'll prob leave it how it is, and carry 50/50 with me anyways like i do now lol
