N/A Intake
I was thinking of getting a K&N filter with that nice straight pipe to the throttle body, always thought it looked nice and clean. Then I read this in a Supra History Story:
ACIS (Acoustic Controlled Induction System), a method of controlling air compression pulses inside the intake piping to increase power, was also apart of the 7M-GE's technological arsenal. So it seems that the Engineers didn't just throw that big barrel shaped piece into the intake pipe for no reason. If anybody out there who knows what they are talking about would like to maybe explain this, or give it a thumbs up (keep it), or a thumbs down (chop it and get the K&N) please feel free to chime in with your expertise. there is info on this subject. search the threads for ACIS.
ACIS is the 'butterfly' valve in the center of the 'aluminum' intake manifold. its vacuum operated. you can safely remove the intake 'sound deadning resonator' (the big round plastic thing) from the intake, without any power loss. Be sure to cover the new metal pipe intake with insulating wrap, so it won't absorb heat and cause 'power loss'. It is right over the exhaust manifold, after all.

Thanks, guy
Well, now I know where the butterfly valve is and what it does. Always something new to learn. At least I got a good laugh from the fella who kept asking where it was on the 7MGTE and the other guy told him like 3 times THERE IS NONE. Funny man, real funny. Thanks again for coming through for me Mr.Nickleye.

yes all that big barrel shaped thing is is a resonator, keeps sounds from coming out of the engine.
while on the subject, will that also play a role in the acis? i read acis had to do with sound coming from the valves and the timing of the acis to create a supercharger affect, am i correct so far? so if the resonator is to keep sounds from coming out of the engine via the intake, would that interupt the process of the acis? i may be way out in left field but just curious. sorry /rabbit trail

Yes....way out in left field. Resonator intake is to dampen the sound of the air rushing in when accelerating.
ACIS, as you read in the thread I mentioned in the search function, is for increased torque at low rpm, and then increased air flow at high rpm.
