HELP!! PLEASE - car won't start
Hi,
My factory security on my 89 is acting up and I am unable to start my car. It is stranded 30 mile from my home and it's my daily driver, so I need help ASAP!! Here is a short recap. I can set the system by locking the doors. The red light flashes like it should. When I unlock either door, horn honks and the headlights pop up, and it contunues to do this until I put the key in the ignition, but it nothing happens, the engine will not turn over. I recall in the past, this has happened and I have been able to mess around with both doors and get it to reset. This time, no such luck... and also I noticed this time the headlights just pop up and stay up where before they when up and down. Can anyone out there give me some help please? I am really lost as to what to do next. Thanks, Al |

Thanks for the reply..but the problem is.. I do reset the alarm..but everytime I unlock the doors, it sets the alarm off again. So the question is...how do you "unset" the alarm? Al |

Hey Big Al
I got stuck in a mall parking lot like that. Here is what you do. Got this from a Toyota tech. Even if the alarm is going, insert your key into the door lock, turn it twice to the open position (2 turns right). That should shut it down and let you drive away. Sometimes it is better to use the passenger door because of continuous use the drivers side may get worn out. This worked for me and I nearly kissed the friggin ground when I got out of that lot. GOOD LUCK! I hope you didn't do anything crazy in the meantime like pullin wires and stuff.

Yo, BIGAL,
How'd it turn out. Did you get it started and get the alarm re-set? You ask for advice, then just leave us hangin? I kinda like to know how the story finishes.

No problem BigAl,
I just was wondering how you got out of there, it would have been a pity to pay for a tow when the answer is so simple. My alarm haunted me for several months, then all of a sudden............nothing. And it's been that way for about a year. Almost everybody on this forum has experienced it, but that re-set sequence I told you about seems to be the real deal. Good Luck, Keep it on the Road.
