Popping sound
It is produced by bare metal hitting the "stop knucle" which had a plastic cap on it that has worn off. Somehwhere on this site is a beautiful picture of just what is happening. This is a common subject as a lot of people complain about that sound when making a tight turn. Do a search, maybe you can find that picture I was talking about.
