What year
How can I find out what year my motor is? I did a search found a forum that said it was the 10th digit in the vin next to the oil filter. I only have 9 digits they are 7m0159012
|
That’s the engine number, the VIN number is on the label attached to the bulkhead. It should be something like this JT1LBMA70 0147428 Not easy to find the YOM from the engine number, if you send me your VIN number I will be able to tell you the YOM.

you cant tell from the engine. you would have to find the car the engine came out of
|
I got the motor from Foreign Engines. They don't know the exact year. I told them I need a motor for a 87 supra n/a
|
Where is the number located? I looked all over the block and could not find anyother number.
|
I also needed to know this info but I looked around for a long time and I found out that you cant tell the year with the motor you must need to know the vin from the car with the motor.
|
I have no way of knowing what car it came out of. Is there a year to year difference? I have heard that the 86.5-88 and the 89-92 are the same. What is the difference between the two?
|
The 88+ 7m motors uses the true 7m crank
While the pre 88 motors uses a 6m crank So I've heard Somebody cement this claim for me |
So there is no easy way of telling what year it is?

and went thru three motors already never bothered me what year they were although you can tell if its usdm or jdm but as long as they run good, the year shouldnt matter |
if the knock sensors are grey, than its prolly a 89-92, because most of the connectors are grey. on the pre 89 most of the connectors are green and yellow.
and yes the 7m crank went into the 89+ and 6m in the pre 89 |
Is there any markings on the crank shaft that tells you if it is a 6m or 7m?
