Default 89Supra hard start

My 89 Supra, non turbo turns over when i turn the ignition but i have to try several times and pump the accelerator to keep it alive.
Other than that it runs pretty well once its going, although it seems like it may be lacking some power.
Anyone got any idea what could be the problem?

have you done tune-up, lately? have you check on the following: failed fuel pump, ignition module or broken overhead cam timing belt, battery? it would be best to check all your toyota parts to know what might be causing the problem.. keep us posted of what other things did you find out.. good luck

I got in and replaced 4 of the spark plugs (cant get to the two under the intake very easily, and right now i dont have time to pull it apart) and the plug wells are filled up pretty good w/ oil. Could that be causing the hard start? The plugs were somewhat caked over so i scubbed them off and put em back and it didnt seem to make a difference to i just replaced them (4 of em like i said).

O, and i also hav been getting a check engine light, the code reads as a problem w/ the water temp sensor. I thought, it might be a problem w/ the thermostat bc the wires were disconnected a couple weeks back and i had to put em back together. (that fixed my dashboard temp gauge) but it didnt kill the engine warning light like i figure it should have. So, i reset the system by pulling the fuse and the light still pops up...

I'm still workin on checkin parts, but im still wonderin if its worth keepin the engine or if i should scrap the whole thing and drop a new one in. I kno for a fact it burns oil like nothin and used to leak even more than it does.

Thumbs up Needs Work

The oil on the plugs is probably from bad valve cover gaskets. You are going to have to take off the throttle body to replace them. It's not that difficult. Plus you'll be able to replace all your plugs. Take lots of pictures before you start. The coolant temperature sensor is also very easy to replace. Go to the CYGNUS site that everyone here uses and you should be able to get diagrams on everything you need. Good luck.

Default Dash Light

Go to this website: http://www.brandwood.net/supra/handbook/index.html and it will explain all your dash lights and what they mean. The one you refer to is usually called the "birdcage" by folks on this board and it lets you know that the overflow bottle in front of the radiator is low on coolant.
