Fuel Filter

Can someone tell me where in the cygnusx I can find info on the fuel filter. I looked in the section called "Tune Up" but it wasn't listed. I know it is near the rear of the car, but I was told it isn't all that easy to get at, and I want to see a diagram before I attempt to replace mine. Any help on this folks?

lol i went to replace mine and searched on it to see about some tips and in my search i found that the filter on these cars are supposed to last the life of the car. that came from alot of people too.

so i went ahead and tried to replace it anyways, and living on the rust belt, replacing it is outa the question. those nuts arent gonna move, lol, the whole filter almost twisted, so i gave up.
if you still wanna do it then its right above the rearend.

yeah right above the rear end, on the frame, follow the fuel lines back, you cant miss it. When i finally found it... i decided to put the filter away for the future, very awkward to get to.

Get It Changed

It is NOT a lifetime filter. How could that be? Nothing is lifetime. I see at least 2-3 vehicles a month that are running too lean due to a dirty fuel filter.

Best to change it when its running good, and convenient, than when it plugs up at the worst of times. I run mine about 5 years, max.

CARQUEST/WIX #86503 Fuel Filter 88-92 List$30.86, Shop price $16.47

The fittings will likely be very hard to break free.

You should help the mechanic by soaking them in WD40 a few times before taking it to get replaced.

Some special wrenches will be used so as not to strip the line nuts.

Mine looked original (but maybe not, but had Toyota part # on it). Lots of rusty, dirty looking crap poured out of it when it was removed. I was glad to have a new one on. It made me feel good that I eleminated a future problem before it happened.

Use a 14mm flare nut wrench on the side with the flare nut and the other side with the banjo bolt is 17mm if I remember correctly.

OK, Thanks

I'm leaving New Jersey for Florida tommorow and have been trying to take care of everything now before I have to do it on the side of the road. I did a oil change even though I just did one 2 months ago (I usually change every 3 months). I put in new plugs and wires, air filter, distributor, got a new radiator, as the old one was clogged like all hell. 2 months ago I got the new Head Gasket done. I have a new water pump, clutch pump, clutch plate, alternator (rebuilt), fan clutch, coolant sensor, throttle position sensor. I probably missed something or other, but I have been putting all my money into the engine. I put in a new Fuel Filter 2 years ago (actually had someone else do it for me) so according to Mr.Nickleye I should be alright, as you are saying I should get 5 years out of it. I know it was new cuz I purchased it myself. The looks can wait till later. I see no sense in having a beautiful paint job and gleaming rims if you can't drive it. So wish me luck guys, and if anyone out there lives in FLA, send me a private message or an e-mail, maybe I'll be near by (although I know Fla. is a big state).
