Improved Performance and MPG
I run mid-grade fuel in the summer because it improves the chances of NOT having engine ping under a load. I run 15* timing. I run the a/c all summer, day & night. I use the 'Sport' mode on the automatic trans because the a/c copressor uses about 10hp.
I get 15-16mpg town, and 18mpg hwy. 90% of my driving is town. So...in the last tank I ran regular fuel, with a bottle of Amsoil Octane Booster. https://www.amsoil.com/storefront/aob.aspx I ran a few miles in 'sport' mode. It definately felt like more power around town. Don't know if there are special additives in it, but normally you use Octane booster to help eliminate ping because your HPs are so very high. Mine is only about 225hp. Anyways, I then switched to 'normal' on the tranny button. Usually it feels like it has less power, as the trans upshifts at lower rpms. But I ended up leaving it in that position for the entire tank of fuel. It felt like it had a lot more power than usual. I suggest, that for the small price they are asking for a bottle, you might want to try some. Also...I got 18 mpg in town. I have my routine M-F. Drive the same roads, and same speeds. So I filled up today with regular. No booster. I will try it in the normal position and see what mpg I get, and how the power feels. I will let you know next week.
