1990 Supra Vs. 2002 Wrx Vs. 2001(ish) Mustang GT
Well, as the title states, my friend and I have a continuing conversation about who would win in a drag race. He has a 2002 WRX that is stock as far as i know. He may have an exhaust or something of the sort, but not a lot. I've got a bone stock 90 MKIII Turbo 5 speed. I think I could keep up with him, he says I'd have no chance. While at the same time, another guy with a Mustang GT wants to run at the track to see who would win, but like me the guy with the Mustang doesn't really care who wins, he just likes to see what different cars can do. So out of those, which car would probably have the best chance to win. I assume the GT is stock as well. I don't know really, just thought it would be some good conversation.

Well the mustang has the most power, but also weighs the most, the subaru has the least amount of power, but weigh less than the 'stang or supra. The subaru is also all wheel drive, so it will get off the line the best. Mustangs are also geared terribly. A stock gt of that year will run about a 13 on the 1/4 mile. In my opoin the Impreza would win with the supra coming in a close second.

Lets first get all the specs: 1990 Supra turbo: Horsepower: 232 hp @ 5600 rpm Torque: 254 ft-lbs. @ 3200 rpm 2002 Wrx turbo: Horsepower: 227 @ 6000 RPM Torque: 217 ft-lbs. @ 4000 RPM 2001 Mustang Gt: 3.8L 190 hp V6 Horsepower 190 @ 5250 RPM Torque (lb-ft) 220 @ 2750 RPM or 4.6L 260 hp V8 Horsepower 260 @ 5250 RPM Torque (lb-ft) 302 @ 4000 RPM So as we can see, the supra, if running optimally, should take on the wrx as it has more torque kickin' in at a lower rpm and a little extra hp also at kickin in at a lower hp, it should also have no trouble with the mustang if it's a v6, if it's the v8 then no. Also, since when is AWD better for acceleration then rwd lol???? Maybe for offroad use or when there is low traction like snow or rain or gravel, then ok, but for street use and racing in dry conditions, RWD all the way!!! RWD is always superrior for acceleration, that is why many sports cars and indy cars, F1 cars etc... are all RWD. Lets not forget the turbo supra's rear differential is a LSD differential on all turbos. Also, awd is heavier and loses more energy transferred to the wheels as opposed to a RWD |
