My mom took her cavalier to a mechanic yesterday and it managed to come back with more problems than it left with. The mechanic claims that one of the fuel injectors split in half (she's able to run the car but it sounds really bad right now, and she can't go without the car) so after hearing this, I decided to do the job myself and check for the problem when she gets home from work later today.
The odd thing about this was that the mechanic was supposed to be fixing the a/c.... so how did the fuel system get touched? Other than that the belts needed to be replaced (they could be making the noise I guess) and one of the pulleys is supposedly making a noise. So now for some questions... 1) To remove fuel injectors... you relieve the fuel pressure by turning a nob/valve on the fuel rail, then remove the fuel rail, then the injectors? Is that correct? 2) Anyone think that the mechanic is at fault here? |

agreed completely
if he was supposed to be fixing air con what the hell did he do to the injectors and split in half puleasee... you can't split injectors unless you take em out and smash em with a hammer.. and then to split them nice two pieces.. the odds of that are very low lol is it leaking fuel? if not then i would say fueling is ok how is it running?.. missing? idling low?

maybe the guy means the electrical connector to the injector is cracked in half .
you are supposed to pull the EFI fuse while at idle. i did that once ofcourse i didnt do it like twice and i don't recall much difference . you are gonna see gas dripping, should not be a surprise . it's not like gallons of gas with 30 lbs of pressure are gonna come flowing out when you loosen the rail hardware . btw does the A/C work now ?

I forgot about something... something went wrong yesterday after he fixed the a/c and the car caught on fire (how could I forget this? :blink and the problem was the fan clutch. I'm not sure what's wrong with that besides it catching on fire...
I'll have to examine the car a little closer when she gets home. |

After my mom took the car home she was running the a/c at full blast right away (it hadn't worked for years I guess) and it caught on fire. She said it was blowing cold air though. <_<
Anyway, my mom took her car to the mechanic at work and he says it's the tensioner making that noise and that the injectors are fine. She does need some kind of fan clutch or something though. So thanks anyway guys, I'll ask more questions in case something else goes wrong. h34r: |

Fan clutch is filled with oil, so it might be possible to catch on fire...but that's pretty insain...
I see you got a second opinion, good idea, sounds like the first mechanic was a bit shady h34r: |
