Meet Squirt... not at all a lemon... ;) (mah new ride.)

I picked this up last weekend. 1991 MR2 Turbo, 112K, excellent mechanical shape, all original (except for some stupid "universal" replacement shift knob, shift boot and floormats which must have come in a set and were a kind of sickly orange/yellow... replaced them today with parts and a short shifter). Sound system is aftermarket. It's got a TON of pep; not as fast as the Supra, but a shade over 200 HP in a little car like this with it's crazy front to rear weight ratio... it's a kick in the butt! I knew all this going in though, I used to own a '93 Turbo.

There is a dent in the passenger side door which I've hear from a couple people "shouldn't" be too bad for paintless repair. and I'm still trying to find a good deal on window tint... I got lower quotes on the Supra!!! WTF??? :eek3: Oh, and it's got a semi-decent respray which needs some wetsanding and buffing in some areas.

Not planning much in the way of mods right now other than a small bump in boost once I get a set of blueprinted injectors to swap in. Down the road I'll probably install a MAFT Pro to get rid of the VAFM these cars use (I hate those).... but for now I'm keeping it mellow. My Supra would eat those for a snack, but before building the Supra up this would have eaten it.... but this would out handle it both then and now.

All in all I'm very happy with it.

Oh and my wife insists on name the cars... the minute lemon started rolling off her tongue I told he she could call it Squirt but to use THAT word... :rofl2:

cre 06-05-2010 05:22 AM

Did I mention it's YELLOW?!

I was kind of surprised when I saw it in person and actually stayed to test drive it.... lol...

The 140mile drive back along the mountains from the guys place where I bought it was WONDERFUL!

mkiiisupra 06-05-2010 06:10 AM

Looks nice, trying to convince the wife to let me get a 1989 one ;)

I LOVE MOUNTAIN DRIVES!
i went to vermont with my supra adn went thru the back country roads, it held up =)

cre 06-05-2010 03:45 PM

I'm eager to get out this morning, but I've got to go do some work on the Supra..... and sign some paperwork... she's sold and going to a new home (about 3 miles away to a friend who'll keep her a weekend toy instead of a daily driver... he paid for a big chunk of the complete rebuild we just did).

bryanf89 06-05-2010 04:07 PM

sweet man...side by side comparison pics? :bouncy:

batmmannn 06-06-2010 01:26 AM

Nice Ride Cre

You guys would love our mountain roads in WV. The curves and climbs, and scenery!

cre 06-06-2010 02:53 AM

The rockies man... nice this time of year while everything's still green... I am jealous, though, out there it's green sooo much longer.

Had a great drive today, lots of fun in the twisties... :D

The Supra's not living here anymore... The trollop moved out most of her things this morning. :rolleyes2 If I think on it when I'm over there next I'll shoot a photo or two.

bryanf89 06-06-2010 03:26 AM

that mountain scenario is when i turn the radio off and let the sound of the engine and turbo become one with me, its a beautiful bond between man and machine...i miss vermont driving =(....im really considering going out there 4 times a year...each time for a season lol

Green7mgte 06-06-2010 03:51 AM

from the pictures is deduced were you are located. Ill be over for dinner.

cre 06-06-2010 04:38 AM

LOL, other people's pics... I've got pics of it in front of three different houses and in an apartment complex parking lot... :D But yeah, my neighbor does drive an Escalade. ;)

Man these cars get some wild looks... The engine in back thing and the styling really throw some people...

The sound is soo very different than the Supra and when the engine screams over your shoulder when you nail it it is a bit of a change... plus it's not that deep roar I'm used to.

Like I said though, I bought one of these new back in '93, so I knew what to expect and I'm not at all disappointed.

So you like the mr2's, I’ve been a fan of them for a while. It s funny the place I’m getting my used engine from to fix my Celica, is a mr2 business. He has a few of each generation. Personally if I had my choice, I’d go with a mk3 mr2 and swap in the 2zzge with the c60. It makes it have about 2200lbs with 180hp stock. Here is the guys links if it comes in handy.

cre 06-06-2010 04:28 PM

Heh, I installed a new shifter and floormats and some other parts from them yesterday. :D You should get me a discount on my next order. ;)

Never been a fan of the MK3 MR2.... Spyder's just don't appeal to me and they're too underpowered... can't believe they allowed such a hit in performance; should have offered a turbo option.

I just need to get a MAFT Pro in this to get rid of the VAFM and get boost control in it and I'll be happy. I'd prefer to go with a MAF versus speed density though as I really don't care to dick with the tuning so much to get the S/D running perfectly.... BUT it all depends on whether Bob enabled the use of a MAP sensor in conjunction with a MAF so you can use boost control while measuring air flow with a MAF or not.... couldn't before, but it was on his to do list last I heard. No one's running the MAFT Pro on one of these cars yet...

bryanf89 06-07-2010 12:23 AM

its time for cre to take the mr2 into a new realm lol

cre 06-07-2010 12:54 AM

I don't know man... some of the things some people have done with these is insane... a twin turbo V8? Can you imagine that roaring into your ear from right behind you??? :eek3:

I'm going to stick with a 4cyl and a big turbo... hard enough to work on the 4 cyl without dropping it than a V6 or bigger. I mean damn that shit's in there tight. Oil changes are CAKE though!!!! Same for spark plugs. Hope the gear oil isn't too bad because that's on the list for next weekend.

A friend freaked today when he realized the engine was in back.. lol. It just doesn't get old.

Green7mgte 06-07-2010 02:22 AM

I miss my mr2.. :( love my supra tho

bryanf89 06-07-2010 04:09 AM

how does it handle with the engine in the back?

cre 06-07-2010 05:53 AM

It's nothing huge while just cruising... but damn, when you hit the corners... :D oh yeah!

That's a big part of what brought me back to getting another.

batmmannn 06-07-2010 04:27 PM

Too Much Racing and Sports

Well Guys too much Football and racing motorcross when I was a wee bit younger has me convinced that I have done a lot of work on my Supra, cause I am SORE ALL OVER!

Hey Cre, how is the gas mileage with Squirt?

An MR2 might make a great fun commuter for me someday.... Scott

cre 06-08-2010 02:01 AM

I haven't really had time to get a good idea about mileage... last tank was 22MPG almost all city and a lot of boosting... It's MUCH better than the Supra and I haven't finished tuning things up.

It is a lot of fun and get TONS of attention... not always good, but I'm trying to tone down my driving... and it's working there... I'm driving the bat signal.

crshbandit 06-15-2010 11:15 AM

I haven't moved your thread yet. I was waiting for more info so I would know where to move it. You posted in a moderated section, read the description and you'll see that any posts there must be approved before they appear for everyone to see.... so your other posts are still hidden. I will move your thread later today to the mkii section.

Just to be sure you don't miss it, one of our moderators moved your thread to the MKII section. You will find it here: http://www.toyota-supra.info/forums/...questions.html
