Hey all I just bought a 1988 Supra Turbo, this is my first import and I'm excited its a supra... I was wondering if people could post some popular parts / upgrades for a rebuild from the ground up... Keep in mind I want this to be a street car with good power and a tight suspension. Also I would like to hear peoples thoughts on what engine I should roll with? Original? 1jz? 2jz? I'll be honest I have a hard on for the 2jz but I'm willing to admit I don't know enough about supra's to know if thats the right choice for my 88... Thanks people roll on!

Depends on the purpose of the car. What kind of power out-put would you like? Is this going to be a track/drift car?

mmk if you were going to go somewhat hardcore towards the drifting I would suggest the 1jz, higher revving and lighter weight. You could basically do next to nothing to the engine and achieve close to 500hp. I know a tuner that has achieved that, I can find out the details of exactly what he did. |

Hello, I am in the same boat. I just got my hands on a 1988 Supra Turbo. I have to do some repairing to the exhaust, tires, and battery. But I know how to take care of those. I plan on creating a daily driver and a track purpose car. Only after I gain enough money would I try to ensure drifting. I really want to know what are some popular parts for this model, I plan to use most of my earnings on suspension and tires. Then I plan to spend whatever I have left on minor power improvements. My target horse power would be 260-300hp.

slap an exhaust on it and a k&n filter and you will be close to 260bhp but go to jscspeed.com suprastore.com suprasport.com horsepowerfreaks.com and see what they have to offer but i will tell you that these cars respond well to exhaust upgrades and i would upgrade the intercooler as well

It is good to hear that because I only planned on doing intake and exhaust upgrades on it. I do not want to dump in a lot of major power upgrades for my first supra and first car ever all around.
This is going to be my first car and I want to treat it right. So as for suspension improvements. I really don't know what I want to do, but I want it to be stiffer and lower to the ground. Probably about 3" or less. I want a good amount of ground clearance but a stiff suspension that would be good for going around a tight corner. I plan on creating a track and sort of sprint car, something that could handle well.

Hey, how are you guys? My name is Ray from Cincinnati. I dealt with a lot of hot rodz in the past. My Ex just sold my 1947 Dodge, I had it on a mid 70's Nova frame with a smallblock. I joined here (I'm not a n00b, I am on quite a few forums) I will be purchasing a 1989 Supra with the 7mge engine. I am very excited about it, although I am in unfamiliar territory, I am really looking forward to wrenching on imports. Something different for me but I don't have a lot of knowledge of Yoda's so hopefully I can lean on you guys to tweak and make this a fun car to drive and be a little diverse in my toys. Look forward to speaking and learning from you veterans.
