would like to interface with some folks that are racing MKIIIs in autocross events. Thanks to a lot of input, I'm beginning to get a better idea of what I need to do with the suspension and weight reduction- still need to better understand engine mods.
Best engine recommendations (non-turbo build up or single/ twin turbo). Probably don't want more than 300- 325HP/ ft-lb of torque at the rear wheels initially (weight will be down around 3000lb). This will yield a little better than 1HP per pound of weight. I'm concerned that power response time/turbo lag will be a problem while negotiating an autocross course? Lightened fly wheel? aluminum drive shaft? Will the rear end and tranmission take a beating?? Appreciate any input!! Rod |

i'd brace as much as possible for starters. handling on an autocross can give you better time than having more power. then gears, tire height and tranny will be a whole other combination.

Hey Mate I've got a 1G GTE Supra that i use for auto cross and drift.
2.0L Twin turbo (standard turbo) G reddy Boost controller runs up to 1.6 bar boost on 103 Octane. Usually run 1.2 Boost for reliable application in Autocross. HKS Dump valve for the crowd. I've got a cam as well. Suspension fully worked and braced. Adjustable coil overs. Stripped interior. IMO Supra is a bit heavy and maybe go 4 7M gte or 1JZ. |

turbo lag won't be a problem if you keep it in the correct gear for the the corner. Do you have any experience autocrossing? If not, race it STOCK, get used to it, and then make upgrades. Get new tires (not slicks), springs, and shocks. Sway bars, brakes (get better pads and powerslots, or go with wilwood's), slicks, ect.
Engine changes would be made to make it more durable during the hard driving. I would replace my shifter cup and seat with better units to make shifting smoother and firmer (or spend the $500+ for a short throw). Clutch, radiator, synthetic oil, and change it often. Do it gradual, and enjoy the experience and get used to the car and what it's trying to tell you. |

how'd ya like my zoolander impression,i've been working on it.any how tune carefully and slowly, like poodles sais tires and suspension and brake upgrades should be in order,i completely agree.better to handle well with less power than to handle bad with to much power.as you'd slowly test and tune the car part by part you will see what improvements are yeilded by each one, then you have something to compare to.after you think yer done with the suspention move on to the motor, keep in mind with more power comes more difficulty in putting it down to the ground,so after you've repeated the upgade process with the engine it will be neccissary to to see if the upgraded suspension needs more work(modification or adjustment in a coil over set up,or sway bar adjustment, camber, toe)to hook up how you want.tis is all alot of work and research but would you rather have been eating donuts?i say ney my brothers and sisters, get out there get greesy and grimey then haul ass.it also depends on what you auto cross designation is,i run under the sp (street prepared)class.wich meens i cannot gut the car of it's trim and inner moulding,no exhaust system is needed,no bov, don't need one when the exhaust is 1'6'' long,no backpreasure on turbo so the bov never goes off anyway.most suspension upgradas are legal.i run a 1jz-gte with pfcon, gcc, cold air intake,my own special exhaust, and completely upgraded brakes and suspension(every damn thing is on here),my special harness bar,4 pnt 3'' harness.everything has been done to this car,it dyno's at 347 hp to the wheels and the power is just perfect, not too much not to little for lowspeed high skill tracks.

oh and learn how to heal and toe(this keeps revs up while shifting)find the correct gear so there will be no turbo lag once you 've practiced enough.
