I bought a wreaked 1988 Supra turbo 5 speed for $350. I swapped all of the interior. I took the driver side fender, painted it and put it on my '86.5. I took the complete hatch and wing off the '88 and put it on mine. I painted the side mirrors, the molding, and the grills black. I swapped the manual trans and LSD rear end out of the '88 and stuck it in mine. I also took the rims off the '88(they looked better). Now im just waiting to rebuild the turbo motor and drop it in. Oh yeah, i hit a dip doing about 80mph and one of the buckets on the strut broke and my car hit the ground. When i tried to get it on the tow truck the bottom half of the bumper got ripped off. I have also lowered it, put an intake on it, and and exhaust. and it has a 40,000 mile jdm motor.

Supra4life, I wanted to point out that your car should have a place at the rear where the two tow cables should be able to attach and all so i hope this helps you out next time you get it towed and all. Also, I'm looking forward to getting a 7mge auto to 7mgte 5 speed too! I can't wait till that happens!

Hey, nice looking car, suck about your bumper though. It's nice seeing another 86.5, good luck on the engine build!!

Yeah, it wasnt hard to change it to manual. all the mounting pieces are there and so is the hole for the master cylinder. everything bolts right up. all you have to do is wire up the nuetral safety switch. you dont even have to change the ecu. it might throw a trans code, what ever you do dont leave the ect switch pluged in. that will send the code off. mine only threw a code a first and then it stopped after about 30 min. if you need anymore help im always happy to help.

With the transmission and all, do you know if W-58 and R-154 on an MKIII are interchangeable with each other and if there are any differences between the two like the final drive gear or the top speed they will allow?
|
the transmissions are interchangeable. the only thing that is different is the brackets that go from the block to the trans. i put the R134 on my non turbo motor. all the bolts line up all you need is the brackets. umm im not really too sure about the differences in the trans. i did 150mph and the rpms werent redlined. i know it will pin the speedo at 160 but im not sure what it will top out at.
