Replacing the headgasket + Lots of Pics

My supras headgasket was replaced a year and a half ago by a local auto shop. I origionally wanted them to retorque the headbolts to 72ft/lbs but they told me that they only go by factory specs, I had no choice so I was ok with that for then.

About a month ago my overflow bottle started to bubble and act abnormally. It eventually got to the point where coolant was bubbling over and out of the overflow bottle when i drove it so i knew something was up. I didnt know that i had a BHG becuae I had no other symptoms. I eventually took it back to the auto shop and they did a block test and found o2 in the coolant; so that meant another BHG.

I decided to replace it myself this time because i didnt want to pay another $1700 to have it done by the shop

I ended up upgrading to ARP Studs and using a Fel-Pro headgasket with Hylomar jointing compound.

Now that this is all over i never imagined myself replacing my headgasket in the past. I'd like to thank all of the forums for all of the knowledge i gained to do this myself.

Heres the show part:

I forgot to take pics of the steps after this but you get the point.

It's back on the road running strong (hopefully for a long time).
And thank you chuck for your help.

Headbolts

Those headbolts look different did you get a socket to match that or is that a special tool you have to buy to do the heads? Thanks

Those are studs and what you need is a 14mm 12pt 3/8Drive deepwell socket which is sold at sears and other places but sears is probably the easiest place to find it.

How long does it normally take for a head gaskett change? From the looks of it it seems like a job that needs more than a day of work.
