'85 Supra

Hello All,

Just got this Supra a few days ago. Paid about $700 CAN so I'm sure it's got a few issues I don't know about yet.

So far it's pretty solid. It's a P-Type (from what I've read, L-Types didn't come with leather in '85, which mine has, unless one of the previous owners swapped out the original interior), and everything works! Electronic dash is pretty cool, original radio head unit is awesome. Sunroof doesn't leak, hatch doesn't leak, engine is still strong (Just a smidge over 220,000 km).

Only a couple problems I've found so far. The fuel door barely opens, and there is some under body rust which should be fairly easy to fix. Also some minor body rust around the antenna and door handles. Hopefully I can remove that without any major hassles. Also need to replace the passenger side mirror unit as the internals are bursting out from behind the mirror itself...

The only major issue involves the brakes. The car seems to still be well aligned still and doesn't pull if you let the wheel go, but as soon as you hit the brakes (takes about half the pedals' travel before they kick in) it rrrreally pulls to the right. Literally need about 2 inches of opposite lock to keep her straight, and even then the rear shimmies about. Will probably have to completely redo the brake system.

Found this out when I was driving it back home after I picked it up. Not the best thing is a rainy Canadian winter...

So yeah. That`s my new car. Let me know what you think!

Some more pictures. The interior leather is shot, but honestly, I'm more interested in pretty much everything else. It's the least of my worries.

**Edit...tried the tape player today. Sad to say it eats whatever you put in...bummer. Anyone out there have a working original head unit they are selling? **

And the last of them. Love this car man. Taking it in for an inspection this Wednesday. Found an exhaust leak in the piping directly before the muffler this morning. Didn't look to be too bad though. :dunno:

Haha. Thanks! Kinda partial to the bra. Only one I've seen with it (probably for a good reason). Also, I'm afraid to see what it looks like under there, lol.

I really want to revive the rims. The spare in the hatch is in mint condition and looks so good. So far it looks to be 700 well spent :D

But, we shall see after the inspection.

** Edit: Looked under the bra after my original reply. Didn't see any rust, but it was hard to tell among the dead foliage and dirt. Not cool. **

thats part of the reason to get rig of it.

plus that front end is so sexy... it hides it

dam good buy for 700!!!

I just read a thread on the Yoda cap today. Def showed my noobiness there. At least I didn't start a thread about it, haha. I'm on London, Ontario (well, actually about 15 mins out, but close enough. No one knows the Canadian St. Thomas).

I see you're in BC. I bought a mean bike to go out there but never got the chance. Been trying to sell it for the last while but no bites. Would definitely use the money and put it into my Supra.

Taking it in for an inspection tomorrow (well, technically today now). Hopefully it won't need much to be certified.

To answer an old question (sorry...don't know how I missed it), I live in London, ON, CA.

So it snowed quite a bit tonight. Felt sick so I ended up going home early from work. Since I had nothing to do and couldn't sleep, I decided to take some pictures of the dash at night.

Some of worst pictures I've seen on here, haha. My camera isn`t the best...At least everything works, and to my surprise, the dash isn`t cracked anywhere. Just needs of bit of detailing and the interior will look pretty solid. Also should have the steering wheel and armrest leather replaced.

**Oh yeah, the second picture is the light under the armrest...not sure if is original or not. Was amazed it still works.**

CanadianBak'inSupra 01-12-2011 02:24 PM

yea i love those lights.
there standard.

I can see it being handy at night on a long road trip...thinking I'm going to have to replace that stereo head unit. It's too glitchy. Kinda sad as it's a pretty awesome unit. I wish modern stereos had a built in adjustable EQ instead of those crappy pre-tuned settings.

CanadianBak'inSupra 01-14-2011 12:35 AM

lol i got 3 of them there awesome units.
back in the day they must have been somthing...

No way! You had a Samurai?? My uncle had one of those for essentially my entire life...Had well over 500,000K on it. The thing would never die! He finally replaced it two years ago after the body completely rusted away. Now he has an SX4, which is also an awesome little car.

CanadianBak'inSupra 01-23-2011 03:13 AM

STILL have a samurai
im building a 1.6 liter sidekick engine for it!

B9Supra 02-09-2011 06:36 AM

Nice! Samurai's are awesome. You should post some pics somewhere. :bouncy:
