to anybody that cares

about a week ago, in a jacked up thread, i was asking pple what would b a good idea to use a wind splitter

these things are usually made out of carbon fiber
but those things costs about 2-300 hundred dollars
i dunt have that money, and if i did it will go to the engine

so i came up with a backyard solution in case anybody wants to do it too
all you need is a piece of wood, metal file, and sanding paper, and bondo in case you make a mistake

im not done with it yet, but sumbody askd me to post sum when i start doing it
it might look crappy now but it'll look better after finish and when its mounted

this looks good so far but too early to tell. you know that you can actually make your own carbon fiber... they sell it at your local marine(boat) shops and other places.look around. if you didnt already know its a mesh fiber mixed with epoxy. it could majorly strengthen your lip!

it doesnt look as good as regular carbon fiber but you can probably paint it

question: how can you layout carbon fiber tho? is it hard work to make it ? can u describe the procedures that you have to do

well as the splitters go, they're not halfway done yet, itll look good once its finishd and painted, its a challenge since the sides of the bumper angles up

so maybe ill use the wood as a pattern when its done then ill get the carbon fiber. what do i need to tell shops when i go lookin for it? any brands? names?

what exactly is the purpose of these wind splitter?

lessen wind resistance, and to bring more wind to the inlets

it is sortof hard to make and you might need someone elese to help you

-the first thing you do is lay the fiber mesh stuff out and have someone hold it for you where you want it on your lip.

-mix the epoxy...you'll need a lot for your lip.

-spread the epoxy all over the fiber and cover it all. dont forget to get the edges of the fiber so it dosent peel. the epoxy will seep into the fiber and create a strong bond. let it sit over night.

- if you mess up a little dont worry because you can always sand it down and fill the parts in with more epoxy.



if you want to save money you might want to put carbon fiber only on the front or tip of your lip since it will be taking the most beating, but covering the whole thing is fine too.


when you attach the lip to your bumper you can drill through the carbon fiber or you can make pre drilled holes

its done!!!

I might be mistaken, but Im pretty sure your just talking about fiberglass, not carbon fiber...Carbon fiber is made by superheating a cabon impregnated mesh, melting the cabon and causing it to re-align on a molecular level creating extremely strong and light solid material.

Ive worked with fibergalss before, and while its harder to work with than bondo, its stronger and more flexible. It is however, NOT carbon fiber...

Actually Sup'2NR, those look better than I pictured in my mind...dont skimp in the end, go the extra mile on em. make em look factory good and get us all to oooh and ahhh, hehe

i thought i was right, cuz i never heard anybody using epoxy with carbon fiber,

fiberglass version of the splitter is on the way , this was basically a trial, and a pattern basically now, i got the shap, i got the mounting holes,

everybody can expect a more slick profile next time around, and im thinking of molding it to the front bumper

anybody took thier front bumper off? got a write up share it please

youre right... my friend has it and calls it carbon fiber i guess b/c it looks similar to it. they use that stuff on boats to fix the cracked hulls which are also fiberglass which makes sence now why they would be selling it at boat shops.
I didnt mean to make it seem like it was "actual" carbon fiber. i just called it that.
