I Don't understand why you are complaining about the oil filter. I have changed the oil on my 7M's Turbo and NA multiple times, and all I can say is "Beats the hell outta doing it on a 2JZ". I have a spring loaded gap style filter wrench i got from the Matco guy here while i worked at our Toyota dealership. I love it. By far the best filter wrench. I would go as far as saying it was worth the 20 bucks it cost me.

There's not much about the design that leaves it open to failure... other than bottoming out just right and ripping it and a chunk of the oil pan out. Myself, I stick with bolts, but I know a few people (including a couple mechanics) running these and not one has had a problem yet.

shoot. you go into it blind once and it takes an hour. 5 minutes every other time. I do remember me cursing the firs time I removed my oil filter. like "wtf? its suposto to come out where!?!?" clank! nope.. Clank, NOPE!
just associate it with learning to tie your shoes.. the rabbit comes outa the hole, makes a loop, runs around a tree.... over some pipes gets oil in his eye, bangs his head... you get the idea.
