Hes right if it stresses the vettes V8 how is toyota going to pull this v8 out of their ass and make it handle 1400+ HP easy. Im 100% a supra guy but the new skyline will walk allover a new supra. They need to stick to the inline 6 platform!!

I'm with the belief that they will probably release a Lexus supercar with the V10 or V8, probably costing $100K+ and nobody will be able to afford it, and our MKIVs will triple in value, and I can sell mine and get a new GT-R.

The End.

Besides, with a NA v8 stock, there will be so much more potential then some 3.xLitre straight 6.
I have been testing corvettes recently, and i don't like the cheap american interiors but i really like that LS1/2/6/7s can pull out of anything in any gear. and the 2/7 motors sound rediculous, like F1 status with exhaust.

Aftermarket Twin Turbo v8 supras anyone?
you don't get it, so ill explain to everyone here supra as it stands is AWESOME, PERFECT. You don't Fix Perfect and you can't do better. plus v8 is generally more American. i own a 5.0 trust me i know they don't care too much about the looks. they care more about performance and noise.

So recap,

A. no all of us do a Engine Swap that way, if i had a supra trust me it wouldn't even cross my mind to put a v anything "I-6 for life".

B. the new concept doesn't remotely look like a supra, that's freaking sad how could they drop such a good looking platform.

C. Some people prefer the sleeper effect ( Quiet, cleaner, yet fast) i like both but if i had a supra i'm pretty sure you wouldn't hear it coming. that's just my style. my 5.0 on the other hand... lets just say i wake up people when i stay up late.

After market twintubo V8 anyone ?? no thanks... give me an MK4 any day and ill be happy with it.

to me the car means something more then just simple HP, that car has a great story and to top it off looks nice.

Was researching the new "Supra" or Lexus LA-F as it is going to be called, and came across this thread.

I would like for it to be known that I am a huge fan of import cars, especially the Supra. I fell in love with the 86-92 mkIII models when a soon to be friend of mine (Ernesto) went zipping past me on the local "Saturday-night-drag" back in 1993. I was in my cammed with heads, 3.55 geared 89 Fox Bodied LX hatch. The sound of his blow-off valve cutting the air, and being louder than my Flowmaster exhaust with long tube BBK headers, cat-less X-Pipe, 2,500 RPM drone in 3rd gear completely enchanted me. Which shortly there after I found out the car was also amazingly fast. I was then and forever hooked on the car and gained much respect for the platform.

With that said, I read the post in which the quoted excerpt came from and felt like the poster was saying that the American car market pales in comparison when it comes to history or nostalgia as it would be; and I may be wrong. So here is my two cents for what its worth.

There is a huge heritage behind every muscle car that rolled out of Detroit. The pony car wars had a huge effect on the car market and they molded for a long time how the US car market existed.

There is a long and great story that goes along with a lot of great cars from the 50's 60's and 70's both forgotten and remembered to this day.

p.s. either way thanks for the memories.

Was wondering if you are saying that one would not be putting a strain on the 2JZ at that much HP?

Truth is the longevity is out the window on any motor when your numbers get high in the HP and TQ bands unless you do a proper setup and even then...well you know. I don't want to seem more USDM sided here and I FULLY KNOW Supras make big hp numbers, but it would seem that you are discounting the LS/Chevy (or even the Ford) block too much.

Nelson Racing Engines builds 350 and 434ci stroker motors that produce 1,000hp on 91 octane and 1,500+ on race gas. They have big block Cheby (yes i said Cheby) motors that make 3,000hp as well. All of which fit in a late model vette, firebird, or camaro or any other oldie.

Again, not being USDM skewed, I just can't stand it when someone says that American muscle can't handle big power.

ICourse I doubt very seriously if the R158 tranny will fit this engine.

Default Noooo.....

I know that every enthusiast of....well everything, frowns when a company wants to reintroduce a new version of a classic.

But I'm going to have to join the chorus of naysayers here. The Supra is, in my opinion, one of the finest automobiles ever made. Toyota should learn from Rocky Balboa.

Leave the classics alone man.
