Default 5spd conversion

sry im a noob and i've been searching for 3 days now

i am going to buy a 2jzgte and i want to put a 5 spd in it will the w58 bolt up and work with the motor or will it just bolt up i searched on the forum and it says bolt up but this does not necesarily mean that it works. so does it work is the input shaft or is it very different or can i buy the automatic and take the bellhousing off of it and put it on another supra 5 speed or not i am capable of the work just want to be 100percent b4 i start

thank you for your time your help is greatly appreciated

there's a site where it said that the stock transmission for the car wont work when you go from n/a to turbo, but if i was you, if youre gonna spend some dough on a transmission, why dont you get a 6spd one since your getting a 2jz engine

that kind of engine only deserves a tougher and stronger transmission
cuz ur gonna have a hard time putting those horses into the ground with a 5 spd

but will the turbo 5spd work cuz if you buy the 6pd it is used no warranty and when it goes out you have to buy another one for 6k the car will be for drag racing too so i don't want 6spd plus the gear ratio of the 5spd for the first gear is really good if i get into road racing then 6spd it is but price/availabilty/the strip all factor into what i want out of the supra thanks for the advice tho

there's a few diffrences from the stock turbo tranny and the stock n/a tranny

Quote:
As far as transmission choices, you can reuse whatever trans your NA had. The W58 (NA 5 speed) will bolt up to the 7MGTE w/no problems. The NA auto trans is basically the same as the turbo auto trans, just some subtle differences inthe clutch packs, etc. to hold the extra power. If you do have an auto trans you might want to think about rebuilding it or replacing it w/a 5 speed as it will hold only about 300rwhp. The W58 should hold upwards of 400rwhp and the sky is the limit w/the R154.
here's a qoute from one site , i havent heard of anybody discussing 5 spds wit 2jz's so i guess the best i know is the r154 is the closest choice for your 5 spd

so hope this helps you

The 2jzge uses the W58 tranny. I'm not so sure u should use it for the 2jzgte engine.

Big difference. 2jzge = nonturbo. 2jzgTe = twin turbo

Pretty much anything with a T in the engine code is turbo.

There are also 1jzge's and gtes. I think some of the Toyota Soarers (Lexus SC300) from Japan came with the nonturbo 1jzs.

Transmission question...How long will the stock auto in an 89 turbo last before it needs replacing, With just a few mods, Filter, IC pipes, maybe a new IC or not, And full exhaust. and thats about it. Is there any perforance trans rebuild kits for the autos? Im sure someone has to make one...
