very general information...expect to spend about $1000 getting it running in decent condition.
if you got that kind of money to spend on repairs, and can do alot of the work yourself to save money...then I would say go for it...if thats too big of a job for you and it will end up an abandoned project...dont do it. Or you can just buy it and part it out on Ebay

If it runs that sounds like a good deal i bought my supra for $1000 wit blown head gasket but i did a engine swap. I think supra are very high maintaince so dont think u r only goin to spend a few hundred dollars they can get expensive havin work done on them. But i still luv supras they do piss me off tho sometimes lol

I don't have a problem doing the body work i used to do prep work in a busy shop on Audi's all day it's just the mechanical end of it i can work on cars i just don't know if it's going to be an overly complicated car and as far as time goes i'm not going to rush it

Well, a Supra is definately not an overly complicated car, especially mechanically. Electronically its no worse than any other car, and there really isnt an abundance of vacuum lines or hoses to deal with. I find that carefull disassembly leads to smooth assembly...mark everything and lay it out somewhere in order of removal...then just reverse the process.

No way it would cost $1000 to replace the head gasket yourself. You are looking at $400 MAX in parts and about 8-10 hours of labor. Now if the head warped beyond the acceptable limit you will have to send the head out to be machined and must work with that shop to determine what oversized head gasket to purchace since there are quiet a few.

the car i want is an 1987 7mge non turbo $2000 (i worked it down to 1200) it has a blown head gasket and some rust. i have a few dollars to invest into the car and i was wondering should i just swap to the 7mgte or fix the head gasket. And does anyone know how much the swap would cost to do it by myself and how much would it cost to have it done for me.
