Wassup guys (and girls), i just bought a 1988 Toyota Supra N/A with an auto. I am going to purchase the 7M-GTE engine only and a manual transmission. out of curiosity and to add on or make any adjustments to my research, i would like to know any recomendations for this swap, and if anyone is selling some parts for the manual swap. i am not quite sure what is all that is needed for the swap an this car because i never converted on a toyota before. I have done hondas' and vws'.

I am actually in the middle of doing a N/A to Turbo. I guess a few things are:
Try to use the same year engine, 88 N/a, use a 88turbo, Only because I know 89.5+’s use diff connectors. I believe 87, 88 are the same, correct me if I’m wrong guys. So far I have swapped over the engine, pretty much got her in the mounts on my first try, lucky me. It’s a fun jobJ. Here is a great link for some steps and what you will need. http://4cefed.com/conversion.html PEace....... |

if your swaping a trans and an engine then your better off finding a parts car because you will waste a lot of time and money trying to find every bolt and washers which is a bitch because im doing a tranny swap and just for the washer, snap rings, and some bearings for the clucth is like $120.00 from toyota

Not to be a downer but if your going to shll out the money for a 7M-GTE why not spend the extra $100-200 for the 1J-ZTE?

well see it might be a twin turbo engine and a little better built but in reality you have to get diffrent parts like mounts and bellhouing and in my opinion a single turbo is better to go with because it is a lot less to upkeep and you can still have the same amount of power. just my opinion.

exactly
the engine itself may only cost an extra $200odd but you're forgetting the rarity of the jz bellhousing > r154 then theres the wiring changes of crossmember if you are pre 89 or buying aftermarket mounts just buy same year engine & harness & ecu if you can and it should be all drop in ![]()
