alright so i went out on break and took off inner rear plastic cover and everything was clearly there, in this first photo you see upside down view of entire assembly, second photo you see pic of what it looks like with my lever left down, and third pic is what happens when i pull my lever up. So it looks like it is all attached, but it appears it is loose, not contacting with the lever at the hatch. so now my question is whats the easiest route to get to access that portion of the cable by the driver seat, do i have to take out the seat?
Note: red cable going to hatch lock, white going to driver lever. sorry for blurry upside down cell phone photo's

The cable is stretched. It's common with the gas and trunk lever. You'll need to pull out the drivers seat and pull up the carpet on that side. You may not need to take out the drivers seat but I'm sure it will make it much easier. It's only 4 bolts and 2 connectors. But it's heavy as hell. Unhook it at the trunk latch and just pull on the cord. That's the easy way.

thanks alot i will get another one, been putting off looking at it for the past 6 or so months since ive had it. and with the gas like you said it also has a similar problem, where would i notice the stretch there, by the pedal? or in engine compartment? not that i have any issues with it but wouldnt mind checking it out to see if it is stretched.

if you want a cheap way to fix it right now just put some zip ties on the end of the cable to fill in the gap. thats what i did because i didn't want to pay the $40 for a new one and the headache replacing it

well heres an update on how i fixed it cause i realized i never told... first i went to toyota and asked for the cable... it was $50+ so i said NVM, i then went to pick and pull and pulled one and shoved it down my pants... therefore only being $2..shhh dont tell anyone.. then i got home and took out all neccesary pieces to reach the cable completely, took out the old one and compared to the one i jacked.... they were the same size which sucks cause i thought i needed a shorter one. Well it turns out i just needed to reroute the cable to take a longer course to the back hatch, and make sure that the end near the driver seat was wrapped under the lever which gave it a big leverage/pull. then tested and now my hatch works... sucky thing is now that i think while i was fiddling around down there i think i knocked the gas one loose, cause now i have to manually open my tank lid so i'll fix that soon enough.

Unhappy Tut Tut, Looks Like Rain

That gas cable went bad because of your bad KARMA.

The tenet of karma is essentially "if you do good things, good things will happen to you — if you do bad things, bad things will happen to you,"
