how do you drive your supra?
Whenever i drive, i try to shift around 2.5k rpm all the time. Unless i'm on an onramp in that case i'll shift at 3k. What does everyone else do and what is good for the engine?

Normal driving 3-3.5k. If i'm trying to stay quiet (no exhaust) i shift at a really low RPM. Maybe 2k. I'm not sure tho cuz my car doesnt have a working tach.

I shift at 2.5k for normal driving
I got a 3" side exit straight pipe exhaust Which makes my car sound jus like a race car, I put my car in nuetral when I have to pass by a cop

ok so what is the risk i run by shifting at higher rpms? I know long term will be engine damage, but anything else? Is it pretty much not worth it?

if its healthy enough, it wont be a problem. i run my engine hard on occasion and havent had a problem. my engine has 90,000 on it but it has fresh headwork and a new headgasket.

2.5-3k on. If im going up a hill i usually shift around 3.5k because my 4th gear doesnt like to pull on hills and straights (sometimes)

3K to 3.5K here. I generally cruise around 2.5K.
The risk with always waiting until about 5.5K is, as you mentioned, excessive wear. The range you cruise in is a bigger factor. You should keep a closer eye on wear components, seals and fluids. If something were to start leaking you'd loose fluid a lot faster. If you stay on top of maintenance it's not a very big deal. |
