Newbie Question
We are about to purchase our first toyota supra.
We gonna be looking for a 3.ol n/a. Any specific colours we should avoid, any known problems to watch out for that we should know about. If we go to a dealer,is there any tricks they use to hide blown head gaskets. We would really appreciate some advice before we start looking as I am guessing that these cars are not cheap to fix. BTW, great site. Cheers. |

Check the spare tire well for any rust. I dont think there is any way to hide a blown head gasket, but check the oil to see if the level is ok. Then check the oil cap for any milky substance. If you suspect it might have a blown head gasket the only effective thing you can do is drive the car around for about a half hour to see if the temp. gauge goes up and check the level of the coolant. Note the level in the resovoir bottle before and after the drive. If it is the same then no worries. Rev the engine a little bit and listen for a knock. Check the body for any rust as you would with any other car. And check for any kind of leaks. Thats about it. Just go over a routine check of the car as you would any normal car.

Cheers matey. I take it there are no problems associated just to the supra if you get what I mean.
If anyone else has any info or experiences on buying, please feel free to comment. Btw, this will be my girlfriends new baby so she will pobably be joining up soon. Cheers. |

Go to the FAQs section and read "Buying a Supra..."
And read over the other threads in that section to get an idea of what you will be getting into. Read all the 'stickys' in the other sections, too.

Thanks for the help. After being badly dissapointed by a stunning Supra with a blown head gasket, my girlfriend is now the proud owner of a 1995 black Supra 3.0l auto n/a.
This car appears to have been looked after and well serviced. I have a couple of questions which I will post seperately. Cheers guys. |
